Business College Academic Advising

Academic Advising at KSU's business college is available in the Undergraduate Programs Office, Room 107 College of Business Administration Building (330) 672-2872.. Make an appointment with an academic advisor online.

All business administration students are encouraged to visit the Undergraduate Programs Office at least once each semester as they pursue their business degree. Periodic and regular advising will assist the student in completing the required coursework for the B.B.A. degree in the shortest time possible. Also, advisors work with students in determining the most appropriate major. Advisors are familiar with employment opportunities and scholarship opportunities.

Here is a short list of objectives, a blueprint for success, for students to use as they progress through their four years of advising on their way to earning their business degree.

Freshmen

• proper course selection
• understand rules/procedures
• successful transition from high school to college
• complete key prereqisite courses
• establish advising relationship
• assess academic strengths
• begin major/career research
• explore student organizations

Sophomore

• continue major/career research
• establish specific academic performance goals
• complete prebusiness requirements
• focus on 1 or 2 majors
• build on academic strengths for potential minor
• join student organization(s)

Junior

• declare a major (and minor?)
• confirm course plan for graduation at student's desired semester
• research career outlook and secure internship
• decide on choices for electives
• register with career services
• attain leadership in student organization(s)

Senior

• confirm graduation plan (courses, GPA, application)
• discuss changing expectations in chosen career field
• secure personal references
• discuss graduate school
• begin job interviewing process
• establish a mentor relationship position(s) with a professional in your career field

Not every student has a strategic blueprint for completing their business degree. As you can see, however, there are concerns that should be addressed at each stage of the academic career that make for a more successful educational experience.
