Why Choose Kent State University's MSFE Program?
Kent State University has a strong commitment to student success and the MSFE program is a pioneering example of the same. Ranked 13th, by Global-derivatives, we are reputed for creating the first financial engineering program with an emphasis on making live simulated trades on the industry leading electronic trading platform, X-Trader.
From this you will learn what is really going on in the markets in your classes, both on the practical and theoretical level. The coursework at Kent State not only challenges you to conceptualize, but also gives you tools and understanding to apply and test your mettle in the markets based on your economic analysis. In one project, the university endowment may implement your trade with real money.
What makes our program different ?
What distinguishes us from other programs is we have a live trading floor with latest software to practice and implement your trading ideas. Our faculty are either former financial practitioners or academicians on the cutting edge of financial engineering, or both. We also offer seminars and trading sessions where industry practitioners visit Kent State and give you their views on latest developments in the market.
With the small student to faculty ratio, you will have the opportunity to have frequent independent contact with the faculty. A visit to Chicago will enable you to meet with program alumni, exchange bigwigs, traders, and others involved in the financial industry throughout the world, which will help with understanding the workings of the financial markets and provide invaluable industry contacts.
What you can get from our program ?
At Kent, you’ll be spending a lot of time on the trading floor gaining market exposure and understanding. You will be interacting with industry experts and embark on an industry-based internship for ten weeks. In previous years, students interned at major investment banks, hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, risk management firms, regulatory agencies, exchanges, and energy firms. This is truly the capstone: here the rubber meets the road and you get to apply what you’ve been studying and learning over the past two semesters.
By the time you graduate, even if you have limited finance knowledge, you’ll understand how mathematics and finance come together in the marketplace through financial engineering. If you already well versed in finance, you’ll gain a more thorough and refined understanding about the markets. Either way, you’ll be ready to enter the exciting world of finance with a degree that is in demand.
